Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS)

Bring your product launch and registration work into alignment. Rombo India helps manufacturers and brand teams prepare for BIS CRS by organising model information, factory identity, brand records and testing inputs before they become separate, conflicting parts of the application.

Understand the requirement

CRS is the BIS registration scheme for products covered by the relevant compulsory-registration notifications. It is not interchangeable with the ISI licensing route. The manufacturer, manufacturing location, product category and brand need to be identified correctly, with applicable testing conducted through a BIS-recognised laboratory for the relevant scope.

The most useful starting point is a clean product matrix. We help compare model names on artwork, technical specifications and laboratory requests, then record the differences between variants. This makes it easier for your engineering, sourcing and compliance teams to prepare consistent information and respond to questions without losing track of the intended launch range.

Who this service is for

  • Manufacturers of notified products
  • Electronics and IT product brands
  • Importers coordinating overseas OEM registrations
  • Teams adding models to an existing product range

Information to have ready

This is a starting checklist, not a fixed submission list. The documents required depend on your product, business role and applicable route.

  • Indicative: manufacturing entity and factory address evidence
  • Product specifications and model comparison sheet
  • Brand or trademark authorisation information
  • Applicable recognised-laboratory test reports
  • Indian representative details where required

Frequently asked questions

Is CRS the same as ISI certification?

No. They are separate BIS conformity-assessment routes with different procedures and product coverage.

Can multiple factory locations share one registration?

BIS guidance requires separate registrations for different manufacturing locations. Brand and product coverage must also be checked.

Can we include additional models later?

BIS provides a model-inclusion process, subject to the applicable conditions. Review the changes and supporting evidence before assuming coverage.

Important to know

Applicable standards, model-grouping conditions and report acceptance must be confirmed for the product. BIS makes the registration decision.
